Food Security

Beyond donations, we are committed to long-term solutions—empowering individuals and families to achieve food security and self-sufficiency. We believe that access to nutritious food is a basic right, and we remain dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the fight against hunger.

A Spirit of Volunteering

Volunteering in Action
Kwik Lok employees regularly step up to support one another and their communities with their one day of paid volunteer time off:

  • Rallying for a Colleague
When a Yakima employee was injured while working on a home project, coworkers volunteered their time to finish the job. “I couldn’t believe it—I was blown away that my coworkers gave up their personal time to help me.”
  • Supporting Rod’s House in Yakima
Employees led a donation drive, collecting clothing, hygiene products, blankets, and snacks for local youth in need.
  • Helping Communities in Ireland
Employees donated to and volunteered at Milford Care Centre, which provides end-of-life care, and the Royal Navy Lifeboat Institution, which offers emergency rescue services at sea.

Reducing Food Waste

Preserving Freshness, Preventing Waste

For over 70 years, Kwik Lok has helped food manufacturers and processors keep food fresh and safe. Our bag closure solutions prevent spoilage, extending shelf life and reducing waste. We also provide traceability labels that help customers track products through the supply chain, enhancing food safety and reducing loss.

Helping our Kwik Lok Family to Reduce Food Waste

Internally we’ve released 20 articles over two years covering the impacts of food waste on the environment, our impact as consumers, and how to more effectively use the food we purchase. Over half of employees surveyed said these articles helped their understanding of food waste.

The Bigger Picture

Food waste contributes to broader environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity, and water scarcity. In the U.S., the average person wastes 219 pounds of food per year, costing approximately $1,800 annually.

By reducing waste within our operations and helping our employees and partners do the same, Kwik Lok is taking another step Beyond Boundaries—toward a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient world.

Partnering for Global Impact

We proudly stand with organizations like World Central Kitchen, led by Chef José Andrés, which has provided millions of meals to families affected by natural disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and global conflicts.

Making a Local Difference

Our employees actively support food security efforts through community-driven initiatives, including:

  • “Scare Away Hunger” Food Drive (Yakima, WA) – Collected 795 pounds of food for the Yakima Rotary Food Bank in just four weeks.
  • Project Hope (New Haven, IN) – Partnering with the New Haven Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council and a local food pantry, employees donated 208 pounds of food and paper products to support families in need.
